When I first met my husband he said “weird things happen around me”.  I didn’t believe him or quite understand what he meant.  Ten years and many weird things later, it still surprises me when they happen.

The latest weird thing happened a few days ago.  I was renting a car while mine was being fixed.  The rental agent asked for my insurance card and called to verify it was still active.  No problem, I thought.  All of a sudden a surprised look comes over the agents face.  The policy had been cancelled.  Frantically I called Hugh at home.  He called the insurance company and it turns out they has one digit from my drivers license wrong so they cancelled our policy…without telling us.  Luckily it was fixed right away and it was the car rental company that found this and not the police.

Weird things happen….

Many people would view things like that as bad and would say “BAD things happen around me”.  To me (and Hugh) it’s not bad because it was fixable and we moved on.

I finally decided to ask Hugh why “weird things” happen around him.  Not sure why it took me ten years.  He said that the world is a weird place but most people don’t realize that.  So in a way he is just more aware of the weirdness and obviously has made me realize it as well.

One thing I always tell my clients before their travels is that if something goes wrong, as long as they still have all their fingers and toes (saying from Hugh), it’s all part of the adventure.  In other words, as long as they aren’t seriously hurt or dead, think of the “weird” experience as a fun memory.
